Activation instructions for Kyocera DuraXTP

Before You Get Started:

  • Be sure that Sprint Direct Connect Plus (SDC Plus) service has been added to your account.
  • If SMS blocking is enabled, remove the SMS restriction until SDC Plus is provisioned on the device. Once active, SMS blocking can be re-enabled.
  • Download and installation is required for activation and use of Sprint Direct Connect Plus application
  • SDC Plus (next generation product) and Sprint Direct Connect (legacy product) cannot run on the device simultaneously
  • The DuraXTP must be on current device firmware/software before the SDC Plus application can be added to the device.

Activation Steps:

Update Firmware

  1. Ensure that the XTP has the latest software by doing the following:
    • From the main screen press OK.
    • From the main menu, scroll down to Tools and press OK.
    • Scroll down to Update Phone and press OK.
    • From the Update Phone menu, scroll down to Update Firmware and press OK.
    • The device prompts that an update is available, scroll to highlight the Yes option and press OK to continue.
    • Device displays Upgrading to new version. This may take several minutes.
    • Device power cycles
  2. When complete, scroll to highlight Done and press the OK button.
  3. At the prompt to enable Sprint Data Services, press the left soft key for Yes.
  4. While completing the process the device will look for an additional update, you may be prompted to repeat these steps.
  5. Updates should be accepted and installed until there are no additional updates.
  6. After all updates are completed, at the prompt for Update Complete, press the left soft key for Done.

Download Application

  1. From the main screen, press the OK key to access the Menu.
  2. Navigate to the Settings icon and press the OK key.
  3. Navigate to and select the DC Plus Settings, press the left soft key to choose the ON option.
    • For existing Sprint Direct Connect subscribers, this will turn off Direct Connect.
  4. One the Sprint Direct Connect Plus screen, press the right soft key to select Download.
  5. Wait for the application to complete the download and installation.
    • Following message displays: Installation complete. Application will restart.
  6. Press the left soft key to select the OK option and restart the application.

Activation

  1. If you just completed the Download Section above, you have pressed the OK option, and can proceed to step 3. Otherwise, proceed to step 2.
  2. Press the PTT key to launch the SDC Plus application.
  3. The End User License Agreement (EULA) page is displayed.  You must read and accept the EULA to activate SDC Plus on the phone.
  4. Press the right soft key to Accept and agree to the EULA.
  5. The phone will display “Activation required to use Sprint Direct Connect Plus service. Activate now?”
  6. Press the right soft key for Yes to activate the SDC Plus application SDC Plus application contacts the server and retrieves contacts and groups (if any).
  7. Congratulations! You are now ready to begin using Sprint Direct Connect Plus.

Prepare Device for Data Use after activation of SDC Plus

  1. Press OK to access menu.
  2. Scroll to Settings and press OK.
  3. Scroll to Others and press OK.
  4. Scroll to Roaming and press OK.
  5. Select CDMA Only
    • Press OK if CDMA Only is not selected and select CDMA Only and press OK.
  6. Power off phone
  7. Power on phone.
  8. Press OK to access menu.
  9. Scroll to Settings and press OK.
  10. Scroll to Others and press OK.
  11. Scroll to Roaming and press OK.
  12. Select Home Only.
    • Press OK and select Home Only and press OK.
  13. Press End to return to the Home screen.
  14. Wait until 3G data is working.
  15. Press OK to access menu.
  16. Scroll to Settings and press OK.
  17. Scroll to Others and press OK.
  18. Scroll to Roaming and press OK.
  19. Select CDMA Only
    • Press OK if CDMA Only is not selected and select CDMA Only and press OK.
