Pack Takes Silver Medal

February 19, 2002 - Salt Lake City, Utah - Team Sprint athlete and Park City, Utah, resident Joe Pack grabbed the silver medal in men's aerials, proving that there's nothing like competing in your own backyard.

Pack finished with a two-jump score of 251.64. Team Sprint athlete Brian Currutt, who was competing in his first Winter Games competition, finished sixth with a score of 245.19.

Ales Valenta of Czechoslovakia won the gold.

Despite a rocky start at the beginning of the 2001-2002 season, Pack finished second in the 2001 overall aerial World Cup standings. In addition to his Winter Games silver medal, Pack also captured a bronze at the 2001 World Championships, six top-five finishes in World Cup competition and was crowned the U.S. champion in 1999 and 2001.
