Sprint’s headquarters campus in Overland Park, Kan., has received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for one of its buildings, and is in the process of certification for others. LEED Certification is a nationally accepted program for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. In constructing the facility, Sprint implemented practices to ensure future construction will have minimal environmental impacts.
Sprint began participating in LEED’s retail-store pilot program in 2008 and in 2009 was the first telecommunications company to receive LEED certification for a retail store. Sprint will use this store as a model for future retail-store remodeling projects. In late 2009, approximately 500 stores will be remodeled using many of the key LEED elements from the pilot-store experience. Sprint also received its first energy-star rating for a retail store in 2009.
Sprint’s 200-acre Overland Park, Kan., headquarters campus is one of the most environmentally responsible campuses in the country.
