Synchronous Transport Signal Level 1

Back to Products & Solutions

Overview

Synchronous Transport Signal Level 1 (STS1) is a carrier-class transport service that facilitates the exchange of signals between traditional asynchronous services, such as DS3, and the higher speed Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) network.

Sprint STS1 provides you and your end-user customers with 51.84 Mbps of bandwidth available on a dedicated, point-to-point basis. The service provides an ideal solution for bridging legacy time division multiplexed networks with the expanding fiber infrastructure.

With Sprint STS1, you may:

  • Increase capacity and speed of communications transmissions
  • Reduce costs through increased network efficiency
  • Gain greater flexibility in network maintenance and management

Features & Benefits

Traditionally, higher capacity standards, like SONET, have been used primarily as "backbone" technologies. As customers rely more on bandwidth-intensive applications, pressure has increased to further distribute the benefits of fiber transmission.

  • Fiber optics and SONET technology - offer a reliable way to transport data, voice, and video at ultra-high transmission speeds.
  • Dedicated connections between locations - further increase speed, security, accuracy and reliability.
  • Standard optical interfaces - reduce costs and allow more flexibility in provisioning the service with equipment from various manufacturers.
  • Multiple pricing options - customers can choose from a broad range of pricing packages, from month-to-month to five-year discount plans.
