Overview

Sprint's Common Channel Signaling/Signaling System 7 (CCS/SS7) interconnection service allows you to use Sprint's CCS/SS7 network for setup and take down of telephone calls to and from Sprint's Local Telecommunications Division (LTD) network, and for retrieving information from Sprint's databases. It is also used to transmit information and instructions necessary for Custom Local Area Signaling Services (CLASS) such as Automatic Callback.

Sprint offers CCS/SS7 interconnection service to all carriers: Interexchange Carrier (IXC), Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), Commercial Mobile Radio Services (CMRS), Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC), and CCS/SS7 Service Providers. Interconnection is available where Sprint has Signal Transfer Points (STP). Sprint's Intelligent Network Operations (INO) Center provides support and network monitoring 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

With Sprint's CCS/SS7 interconnection service, you may:

  • Enhance your end-user customers' perception of your service by offering CLASS features and other services.
  • Rely on Sprint to provide support and network monitoring.

  • Supports certain Custom Local Area Signaling Services (CLASS) feature signaling - provides your end-user customers with the ability to transmit information and instructions necessary for certain CLASS features.

Product Details

Sprint's Common Channel Signaling/Signaling System 7 (CCS/SS7) Interconnection Service allows interconnecting service providers to use Sprint's CCS/SS7 network to establish transmission paths for telephone calls and obtain information from remote databases (LIDB, CNAM and Toll Free Code). It is also used to transmit information necessary to provide Custom Local Area Signaling Services (CLASS) such as automatic callback.

The service is available to all service providers (IXC, CLEC, CMRS, ILEC, and CCS/SS7 Service Providers) where Sprint has Signal Transfer Points (STPs). STPs are located in Florida, New Jersey, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, Tennessee, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Texas and Missouri.

Sprint transmits out-of-band signaling information between its CCS/SS7 network and the CCS/SS7 networks of other service providers. CCS/SS7 networks are separate from, but interconnected with, telecommunications networks used to carry voice and data communications between end-user customers. CCS/SS7 networks have two basic components:

  1. Signaling links - The digital circuits (usually 56 Kbps) used to transport messages between signaling points.
  2. Signaling points - Nodes in the CCS/SS7 network that originate, terminate and route signaling messages, or perform a combination of these functions.
