Climate Change

Sprint understands that climate change is a critical issue and that reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) is an important goal.  As a large corporation with thousands of sites throughout the United States, Sprint has a role to play in the reduction of harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

The majority of Sprint’s GHG emissions come from our energy use, both in our network and in our facilities. Sprint has been actively working to reduce its energy impact for the past several years, as seen through our large purchases of renewable energy, investments in alternative energy research, and development of an energy-conservation program.

EPA Climate Leaders

Sprint recognized the need for a baseline study to effectively measure our emissions reductions and the need to begin working with other corporations toward this common goal, and so in the fall of 2007, joined the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Climate Leaders Program.  Climate Leaders is an industry-government partnership aimed at developing long-term comprehensive corporate climate-change strategies. Sprint has the distinction of being the first wireless provider to join the EPA’s Climate Leaders program. As a partner in this program, Sprint is conducting a greenhouse gas baseline study and will establish an aggressive five- to 10-year goal for GHG reduction in 2008.
"As a partner in the EPA’s Climate Leaders program, we are taking our strong, existing commitment to the next level, by further demonstrating that Sprint is moving forward with true leadership as an environmental steward."

Carbon Disclosure Project

Sprint also participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).  CDP is a non-profit organization that is led by institutional investors in partnership with government and non-government organizations.  Their goal is to encourage companies to report greenhouse gas emissions and disclose climate change risks and opportunities to investors.
