Spam Filtering

Back to Email Protection

Before email ever enters your network, Sprint Data Centers run each message through three layers of advanced spam-filtering technologies:

  • Blacklisting is the primary filter that blocks messages from known email abusers based on our proprietary custom list. Unlike public blacklists that follow a "block first, ask questions later" philosophy, the Sprint list is verified and accurate. We understand that blocking legitimate email is worse than allowing spam.
  • Fingerprinting matches electronic fingerprints of known spam messages against inbound email, which accounts for high intercept rates against difficult-to-detect spam.
  • Heuristic screening (rules-based scoring) matches messages against a database of more than 10,000 rules, and mathematically evaluates specific characteristics to determine whether the message is spam. This sophisticated approach results in a very low false positive rate (less than one in 250,000) while maintaining a high detection rate.
